Pew bows are often incorporated into the décor of church weddings. These large, beautiful bows are usually made with ribbon, tulle or both. You can embellish them even more with fresh or artificial flowers. While many traditional weddings have white pew bows, it is easy to match the theme and colors of the wedding by changing the bow and/or tulle color. The following is a great tutorial on how to make pew bows using tulle and satin ribbon.
Supplies for making tulle pew bows
- 3″ Satin ribbon
- 6″ Tulle
- 20-gauge wire
- Wire cutter
- Pliers
- Floral Tape
- Scissors
Instructions for making tulle pew bows
- Cut the satin ribbon in the middle to separate in half.
- Take an end of the ribbon and bend it back to create a loop. Then pinch in the center and create a second loop that is slightly larger than the previous.
- Twist the loop in the back and create a third loop. Each time you create a new loop, make sure to make it a little bigger than the previous one.
- Follow this pattern until you have created a flower-shape.
- Cut the tail and hold the bow tightly. Now you will create a second layer for the bow with tulle.
- Take the tulle end and create a loop.
- Then twist in the back and create a second loop that is slightly larger. Continue making loops that are slightly larger than the previous loop.
- Next, take the satin bow at its full width (don’t split it in half this time). You will now create the third layer for the bow.
- Just like you have done previously, create loops of increasing size with the ribbon.
- Once you are done, cut the length you want for the streamers.
- Use a 20-gauge wire to secure your bow and streamers.
- Twist the wire with pliers to make sure it is secured.
