How to Make Gourmet Gift Baskets

Homemade gourmet gift baskets are perfect for any special occasion. From Mother’s Day, Christmas, Birthdays, Father’s Day, and Valentine’s Day – the list is almost endless. Gourmet gift baskets allow you to create a personalized, custom gift for that special person filled with all the treats and goodies they enjoy. While prepackaged baskets are sold in stores, it is much more meaningful and fun to create your own.

Before you begin making your gift basket, there are several things you need to consider. First, figure out your budget. If you can’t afford to spend too much, then stay away from expensive foods like caviar, smoked salmon and high-end wines. You also need to come up with a theme for your basket. In short, the foods should complement each other. For example, a basket with cheese, wine, and chocolate would create a nice combination. Once you have your theme down, make a shopping list with a selection of foods that will go into the basket. Make sure to check expiration dates, be aware of any special dietary needs of the recipients, and try to choose non perishables unless you are giving the gift basket to them right away.

To make your basket, cushion the bottom of it with some tissue paper or paper fillers. Then place the food items into the basket. Start with putting the bigger items in the back or in the middle. Arrange the items in a way so that the weight is balanced. If you need to hold some items together, you can use tape to attach the items together or to the basket itself. Have the labels of the food items facing the front and make sure that the fragile items, like jar containers, are secured in place.

Next, you will need to get a clear cellophane bag that will fit your basket size. Gather the cellophane at the top of the basket and tie it off with a ribbon and bow. That’s it! You have just created a beautiful handmade gourmet gift basket.
