Tulle Material
Tulle is typically made from three different types of material: silk, rayon and nylon. Silk tulle is delicate, soft, and works well with clothing applications. The downside is that silk tulle is more expensive than other tulle material. Rayon or nylon tulle is stiffer than silk. They are also less expensive which makes them a better option for decorations. Buyers can afford to purchase large quantities in order to decorate a room or hall.A fourth type of tulle that is quite common is made out of a blend of polyester and nylon. This type of tulle is known as “bridal illusion”. As its name implies, bridal illusion tulle is the fabric choice for most bridal veils since it is soft and holds a better a shape than silk tulle.
Size
Tulle is available in spools and bolts, in varying widths. Generally spools of tulle are 3-inch, 6-inch, 12-inch wide. These are perfect for smaller jobs like making bows for a gift package. Tulle bolts come in 54-inch and 108-inch widths. The large dimensions make them ideal for clothing such as tutus, wedding dresses, or veils.
Colors
Fortunately, tulle comes in a huge selection of colors which makes it easy to find the perfect tulle for any project. Brightly colored tulle is great for party decorations, bow-making or tutus, while white or off-white hues can be used for weddings.
