DIY Paper Flower Craft Ideas for Mother’s Day

Giving flowers is typical for this holiday. However, not only are real flowers expensive, they also wither away within a week or two. On the other hand, plastic flowers are fun, but they lack a personal touch. Handmade paper-flower projects offer a nice alternative.

There are many ways that you can express the beauty of flowers using paper, from complex and realistic floral designs to the simplest of paintings. Paper Mart is excited to share these fun Mother’s Day gift ideas that you can make using our many high-quality products.

  1. Realistic Construction Paper Flowers

Making realistic paper flowers for Mother’s day isn’t as hard as you might think. Start by picking out your favorite color of construction paper. You can also use crepe or tissue paper. For Mother’s Day, spring colors like pink, pale blue, lavender, or yellow all work well. You’ll also need a pair of scissors, glue, floral tape, and some stem wire for this project, although the latter two items are optional.

Once you have all of your materials ready, the first step is to cut out the petals, mimicking the size and shape of actual rose petals. Taking each petal, crinkle it and then straighten it back out again to create an interesting texture that makes the petals easier to work with. From there, add a little glue to the bottom of each petal and pinch together. This will form the petal shape.

Continuing from there, glue the petals around the outside of the flower to form a solid structure. Feel free to make the flower as thick and luscious as you’d like. You can also add adornments to represent pollen or seeds as well. When you finish, carefully attach your stem on the bottom.

  1. Simple Paper Flowers

If making complex paper flowers for Mother’s Day doesn’t sound like your cup of tea, you can also go for a simple two-dimensional version using paper cutouts. Just cut flower shapes out of pieces of paper and layer them on top of one another to form beautiful flower designs. Much like the previous project, you can also attach them to stems. This is a quick and easy project that’s great for kids!

  1. Painted Flowers

You can create the flowers using splotchy, impressionist methods! Try designing a field of flowers using splatter or sponge painting. You can also try your hand at copying a simple floral vase or using a picture online. The important thing is to have fun and put your heart into the project.
