It is always a treat to come across a shop that puts as much thought and heart into packaging as we do! Today we’re sharing the story of a local SoCal shop, Brown Pigeon. If you didn’t know already, Brown Pigeon is an independently owned shop in Los Angeles that produces handcrafted rubber stamps for makers and small businesses. Recently, we connected with the owner and founder of Brown Pigeon, Meagan Lewis to share her story with us! Check it out here.
A Little Bit About Brown Pigeon
Before I get too far into it, I just wanted to let you know that we love your custom rubber stamps. Each stamp is such a labor of love and care and we’re always so impressed by your creativity. For the readers who haven’t yet been introduced to you or Brown Pigeon, could you give us a little introduction to you and your business?
BP: Hi! My name is Meagan Lewis and I’m the maker behind Brown Pigeon! I make hand-carved and laser-cut rubber stamps for small businesses. My passion is giving other makers and budding entrepreneurs a tool that they can use to create their own eco-friendly packaging and marketing materials.
The inspiration for Brown Pigeon came in 2008 when I was making hand-stamped stationery. People would ask how I got the images onto the cards and if I could make a rubber stamp for them to create their own cards, packaging, etc. The idea hatched and took off, so to speak!
We love a good pun! Do you have any favorite creations that you wanted to share with us?
BP: My favorite creations are my #pigeonpackages where I create a custom set of stamps from someone’s logo in various sizes and variations. One of the challenges to ordering a stamp online is that it’s hard to know what size to order, or how to maximize its use. I create mockups to show different sizes and offer discounts for multiple stamps ordered. The result is a custom set for a variety of uses…tissue paper, cardboard boxes, paper tape, shipping labels, product labels, you name it. If it’s flat and blank, you can stamp it.

As you know, we’re celebrating our 100th year as a family-owned business! What are your thoughts on the importance of shopping family owned and local?
BP: First, congrats! I’m so grateful for independent businesses. I’m a one-woman operation and every one of my customers is a small business. I’ve met the most incredible people and inspiring products.
How did you hear about Paper Mart, how long have you been a customer with us, and what keeps you coming back?
BP: I have been a customer since the beginning in 2008 when I opened my Etsy shop and needed a source for my packaging and shipping supplies. I’ve always enjoyed Paper Mart’s selection of ribbons and boxes. They give me flexibility to change things up when I want, without committing to gigantic minimum orders.
I also enjoy showing my customers and Instagram followers custom stamps on many different types of packaging (bags, boxes, etc). I also love your lightning-fast and dependable shipping.
What are your favorite Paper Mart products and why do you love them?
BP: My favorite has got to be the Kraft jewelry boxes and muslin bags, in which I package my custom stamps! They’re great quality and perfect for stamping my logo and business information on.
