December Customer of the Month: Cake Mockery

As we finish up our centennial celebrations, we’re happy to showcase the customers who have helped support us throughout the years with our Customer of the Month showcase, a series dedicated to recognizing longtime Paper Mart customers and their stories.

Today we’re so excited to share the story of Cake Mockery as told by Owner/Executive Pastry Chef, Robyn Giamatti. Cake Mockery is a boutique cookie company based in the sunny state of Florida. Delve into Robyn’s story here!

A Little Bit About Cake Mockery

Robyn, your cookie art is astounding and it’s always a delight to see you pop up on our feed. For those who aren’t already familiar with your decorated cookie creations, could you give us the rundown? Tell us about you and Cake Mockery and how you got inspired to start.

CM: Ever since I was a little girl, I was always drawn to the kitchen. I would sit down and watch Julia Child for hours on end. I always enjoyed consuming food more than pastries, but I loved creating desserts for my family and friends. I took weekend courses as a child at the Culinary Institute of America, and really fell in love with baking and knew that I wanted to become a Pastry Chef!

At the time, in order to be accepted into the Baking and Pastry Arts program at the CIA, you had to have a minimum of 6 months experience in the field. The person who inspired me the most, Pastry Chef Francois Payard of Payard Patisserie and Bistro, took me under his wing and taught me the craft of French pastries and confections. Everyday after school, I went to the restaurant and was immersed in everything sugar and chocolate related.

I was accepted into the CIA and received my Associates Degree in Baking and Pastry Arts and my Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality Management. I went on to be a manager at The Ritz Carlton, a Corporate Pastry Chef of 5 restaurants, and an Executive Pastry Chef at a country club. Many years down the road, a friend asked me to make decorated cookies for her daughter’s birthday, and alas…Cake Mockery was born!

Do you have any favorite creations that you wanted to share with us?

CM: It seems like almost every set of cookies I create becomes my most favorite at that time. I strive to learn new techniques and apply them to every new order or design that I am asked to make. The ones that I have the most fun making though are the cookie orders where I have free reign over the designs. My customers trust me and afford me the opportunity to play with designs while not having any major design constraints. I will say that my favorite cookies to make are for holidays and baby showers!

Cake Mockery & Paper Mart

We’re finishing up our 100th year as a family-owned business and we’re so glad that you’re helping us celebrate! Your support throughout the years has meant so much to us. What are your thoughts on the importance of shopping family owned and local?

CM: It is incredibly important to shop small, and family owned. Small businesses give back to their communities in so many ways. When shopping small, local, and family owned, you support local jobs and keep more money in the local economy.

Small businesses success is reliant on the support of everyone. There is true heart behind all of the products and work as well as unmatched customer service when family owned.

How did you hear about Paper Mart, how long have you been a customer with us, and what keeps you coming back?

CM: I have been a customer of Paper Mart since 2016. The selection of products is extensive, pricing is very reasonable, the quality is wonderful, and the customer service and support is unmatched. All of those reasons will keep me as a lifelong customer!

What are your favorite Paper Mart products and why do you love them?

CM: I utilize many products from Paper Mart. My favorites definitely have to be the cellophane bags, the ribbon, boxes, metallic twist ties and paper shred. I always know the quality is amazing and that is very important to me. All of the prices either match or are less expensive than the competitors. The varying sizes and designs of each of those products make it very easy for me to ALWAYS find something to meet my needs! Paper Mart products are ALWAYS used in every cookie order I have had and will ever have!

The macaroons boxes are perfect not for just macaroons, but for strawberries dipped in chocolate and also bonbons.
