A Little Bit About Hana
I’m so excited to learn about you and your story! Tell me a little about yourself. What’s your story! What inspired you to start?
HL: My mom was an excellent baker and always had treats for us while I was growing up. As I got older I realized it was a fun outlet for me and I loved to make things for other people. I would bring treats into work with the middle schoolers I worked with. It wasn’t until I had my son and was staying at home with him that I really began focusing on making it a business.
I started practicing making cakes and macarons and sold some to close friends. Slowly the word spread and my talent grew and now I am selling to a bigger group of people!
Taking that stay-at-home leap and starting small can be extremely difficult. You must have had a really great support system to help you with any challenges that came your way. What would you say were a few hurdles or challenges that you had to work through?
It is very hard to balance family life and business. You want to spend a lot of time improving your product but you also want to be a present family member! Also putting a price on your craft is difficult as well!
For those finding themselves on a similar journey, do you have any words of advice?
Not everyone will like what you do but that’s okay! Don’t try to please everyone. Do what you love and people will follow!
Agreed. There’s no better truth than your own best self!
