Let Your Creativity Run Wild

With our Fall-inspired display, we got ultra creative and designed a burlap bodice, textured pine tree skirt embellished with berries and the changing leaves of autumn, and deco mesh ribbon belt.

How We Made Our Stunning Fall-Inspired Skirt

Our autumnal skirt is made up of pine garland woven throughout a wire frame wrapped around our mannequin’s waist. While this may sound difficult, the entire process fairly smooth and easy. Here’s how we did it!

Skirt made from Paper Mart garland and deco mesh

You’ll Need

  • 4” Pine Garland
  • Wire Round Tomato Cage
  • Wire Cutter
  • Dressmaker Pins
  • Oak Leaf Embellishments
  • Berry Stems

How To Make A Skirt Using Chicken Wire

  1. First, you’ll want to prep and secure your wire frame body onto the mannequin. Using your wire frame and cutters, bend and fold the chicken wire around your dress form waist. To secure the frame, use your dressmaker pins to pin the wire to your dress form waist.
  2. Next, build your pine skirt. With your pine garland, drape it on top of your chicken wire, tucking the folds of the garland into the wire to keep it in place. Repeat this until your frame is completely filled and formed.
  3. Once your skirt is completely formed, accent the surface of your skirt with your leaf embellishments and berry stems.

Here’s How We Made Our Textured Burlap Bodice & Accessories

For The Bodice, You’ll Need

  • Scissors
  • 21” Burlap Fabric
  • Oak Leaf Garland
  • Dressmaker Pins

How To Make A Wrapped Burlap Bodice

  1. First, with your scissors, cut a large piece of burlap fabric. Remember that this piece will wrap around the top of your dress form nearly twice. Fold your burlap in half with the fold at your dress form waist.
  2. Place the center of your burlap piece at the front of your form and carefully wrap the two ends around your form. As you wrap your dress form, gently pull one side of your burlap fabric to build height towards one shoulder. Use your dressmaker pins to keep your burlap in place.
  3. As a final finishing touch to your bodice, drape your oak leaf garland from your dress form shoulder, bringing one end towards the front to the waist. Wrap the loose end around the back, bringing it towards the front.

  • Berry Stems

How To Make A Deco Mesh Bow Belt

  1. With your deco mesh roll, wrap it around your dress form waist twice and use your hot glue to keep the mesh material in place.Trim your ribbon.
  2. Separately, craft a dramatic bow with long tails and use your hot glue to adhere it to the belt. Let your bow tails fall gracefully to either side of the skirt.
  3. Accent the surface of your dress with your berry stems and leaf embellishments.
